In connection with the 29th anniversary of the NKR proclamation President Arayik Harutyunyan conferred the «Hero of Artsakh» highest state title to NKR Supreme Council first chairman Arthur Mkrtchyan as well as to Captain Armenak Urfanyan who had shown exceptional bravery and courage while defending the Artsakh Republic border during the large-scale combat actions unleashed by the enemy in April 2016.
The President handed in the "Gold Eagle" Order to the heroes' relatives during a solemn awarding ceremony held in Stepanakert on August 29.
High state awards were also awarded to Vahram Tamrazyan for contribution to the modernization of the communications system during the Artsakh war and organization of a safe service of the military personnel, and freedom fighter from Diaspora Hovsep Hovsepyan for the exceptional bravery and courage shown during the defense of the Homeland.
Arayik Harutyunyan congratulated all the attendees on the coming state holiday and in connection with receiving awards and noted that it is no coincidence that they are awarded on the occasion of the anniversary of the Artsakh Republic proclamation as their services shown to the Homeland are exclusive and deserve high appreciation. The Head of the State called this awarding symbolic in the sense that it uniquely encompasses the solid trinity of Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora. "We won due to our unity" ,- emphasized the President.
Armenian Premier Nikol Pashinyan, who attended the event, in his turn congratulated the awardees highlighting that for proper planning of the future, one should always remember and appreciate the past. He also considered symbolic the fact that representatives of various generations of the Artsakh Liberation War receive awards on the same day as an assessment of their merits and contributions in the past and in the present.
Primate of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, State Minister Grigory Martirosyan, officials from Armenia and Artsakh attended the ceremony.
