On 13 June President of the Artsakh Republic Arayik Harutyunyan, accompanied by Human Rights Defender Artak Beglaryan and head of the Police Ashot Hakobjanyan, visited the Penitentiary Department of the Artsakh Republic Police located in the town of Shoushi.
The Head of the State walked around the territory of the penitentiary institution and pretrial detention center, got acquainted with their conditions, talked with imprisoned people and workers of the institution. A. Harutyunyan highlighted the need of proper ensuring of both social and living conditions and various law-stipulated terms of the imprisoned people. He stressed that violence and ill-treatment should be ruled out in prisons, underlining that such cases will receive a strong response from the state.
The Human Rights Defender and the head of the Police presented their observations and suggestions related to preventing the violence, issues conditioned by the emergency situation, as well as social and living standards.
The Head of the State assured that in coming days practical steps will be taken to settle some issues, including creation of a video call opportunity, improvement of building conditions, and so on.
